Remixing

The internet has allowed for quicker than ever expansion of ideas. The growth and momentum so big that will kill Tv like it killed radio. The freedom to express yourself and opinions one has created a strong internet culture. It has empowered the voiceless but as time went by this began to change and having a different idea than the majority can be dangerous for ones internet presence. Though the internet is relatively new I wonder if the culture becomes more tolerant and mature.

I believe that copyright has worked the majority of the time. Loopholes have allowed people have videos removed that had nothing wrong with them. Though this problem mainly pertains to Youtube as they rely to much on computers to determine if a video is fair use. This can be an issue for people that rely on the income from these videos. If I were to be objective the use of copyright has been appropriate but the execution by websites and apps make things hard to protect. They need more real people to monitor what is appropriate as computers have had things slip by and aren’t ready.

I chose to have my image to be a public domain as I do not plan to profit from the image. As most images aren’t mine, I would not mine if some chooses to use it or remix it.

Every year my computer fills up with images that I would normally not use personally, but assignments of my classes which include Art 110. I was going to delete these images but then I though about mixing them together. By doing so I will be able to represent everything new I learned and experienced these past 2 semesters. The image of Batman was the source image because it was the only image I did not understand why I had and I thought It would make the best wallpaper. I really like this project as I was able to acknowledge the use of these images that represent a part of my classes not just deleting them because they take up space on my computer.

Kiyomi Fukui received an MFA in Printmaking from California State University Long Beach and a BFA in Graphic Design from La Sierra University. The majority of Fukui’s work is print based, she also enjoys creating fiber based work through crotchet and tatting. Kiyomi strives to uncover and explore the ephemeral and vulnerable qualities of the human experience. Due to this her work is often constructed of transitory materials.

Tea at 3307 is about its participants having vulnerable conversations as well as their collection of literature. What makes this different is that each participant makes their own tea balls that leave a unique mark on the table. They are able to put down their tea directly onto the table, which depending on the tea leaves a mark of the color of the ingredient. The artist and curator Fukui begins the project by speaking of her literature to then transitioning and encouraging the others to speak about their vulnerabilities.

The result is a symbol of the conversation that was being held. As the Guests had control over the tea stain being left. More so, as a conversation requires more than one person to participate the results is a accumulation of everyone’s role. These stains also represent each participants willingness to be vulnerable and be of support to others vulnerabilities. Visually, the table looks like tie dye pattern and water colors. The patterns are unpredictable with non linear shapes.

Kiyomi Fukui’s project is refreshing and brave attempt at encouraging conversations that almost never happen. As people we become very well at covering our emotions, so for the artist Fukui to be able to have people be comfortable sharing. Also, the use of the table is a great idea because it shows that the conversation was had without being to invasive of its participants. Overall, I think it is great way to talk about what is difficult for people to share and should be done more often.

Graffiti Writing

Writing bubble letters was something new hence it could have come out better. Regardless it was fun and is something I would do again. What I did because I did not have any painting materials is that I used my ipad to draw which is easier for me because I am not experienced. By attempting to do these bubble letters you learn to appreciate the larger murals that are done free hand with spray paint. More so, murals have more details that I myself could not emulate their intricacy. Graffiti is something I don’t understand completely but I can definitely enjoy it and appreciate it.

Sustainable art

My material for sustainable art were used post its as the purpose was not use new materials but give something a second use. Yet my idea was to create an infinite swirl as earth and humans find ways to reuse what other wise be thought to be waste. Weather it is recycling or earth being able to create life from the dead. I believe that it is hard to imagine a way of reusing a post it but it is forgotten that it has a chemical composition. If it isn’t for humans and asteroid hits, earth’s inhabitant while eventually find a use for it. I believe that a kiss last as long as the participating parties find they have expressed themselves. I believe that a great meal should last until the participants desire is filled. This can lead to unhealthy habit but that depends more on one than the food. I believe that marriage should last so long both parties feel each other’s needs are being met and not stop working on themselves. I believe that a human life should be the random average of others but never infinite as it would hold no purpose as there would be no urgency. I believe that things that have finite time make difference as having a animal pet vs a pet rock. The rock can be put off being admired later while the animal is a bit uncertain to when they will no longer exist which deems urgency. I believe things like water, air and land should not change how long they last because many organisms depend on them  but not infinite as that will disturb a balance. I believe that one person can change a global problem like climate change as we found ways to exceed our natural abilities with science.

Second Life Tour

Welcome to my Virtual tour, the theme I would like to explore nostalgia through what I feel gives me this feeling. I have always remembered being amazed by homes that were on hills over looking the ocean. Something about looking at the ocean and being able to see to the other side but knowing there is still glimmering water. Another being neon lights at night which make remember being in Downtown L.A. at night or at a restaurant. Maybe these to aspects of the theme of nostalgia are very L.A. but I’m unaware from not really being outside of this city. Artists Finian, Anya, Sofie Janic and Vega have created worlds that fit this theme for my Virtual tour.

The artist’s name is Finian I suppose and there user name is Noralie78 if you would like to see the artists work. After visiting this world I noticed the artist can edit the sky not only the geographical aspects. Aesthetically, everything from the hill with the castle on top to the Forrest with the river is very pleasing. Being at the castle and looking at ocean was nostalgic by the way everything was very dark. If I had to guess the time I would say it was 7:30 pm. This was made more beautiful as there was a sunset which really adds to a late night.

The artists name is Anya and she created Sao Lucas which to her is the interpretation of the west coast beaches. I believe that her creation reminds of playing the game GTA 5 by the area full of huge trees. Not only that but the rocks and bright aesthetic take me back to the times I have been in Malibu where the waves crashed against the rocks ahead. It is odd to think it looks natural as it looks like an area that mother nature could have created. Yet someone creates this in a video game and as an observer it makes me reminisce.

Cartagena made by artists Sofie Janic and Vegas is a world most can feel a nostalgia towards. There is something about neon lights during the night that make them pop. This gives me an energy of fun and thrill that can be felt at night. Usually a dark aesthetic is related with sinister or scary but in this case the light negates this effect. To myself it brings memories of walking around Downtown L.A. at night with my parents or visiting a restaurant after a party. The trill came from the night bringing out different characters that don’t usually make an appearance during the day or the fun of eating and talking during the time I was suppose to be asleep.

Quarantine Vlog

This was definitely a new experience that was very different from what I expected. My goal with the video is give an update as a student under quarantine. I believe I accomplished this as all the video I explained how the quarantine has changed my current routine. Next time I will look at the camera as if I were talking to a person. I believe that if I vlog it will be due to growing a brand. I don’t really have a favorite YouTuber but a person I very admire is Valuetainment. I really enjoy that he is proof that the American Dream is a real thing that requires wisdom. I enjoy that his videos have different things that enhance his points . To me authenticity is about being honest with one’s ideas. Performance is the matching of a mood or ideas that can be represented physically. I believe performance and authenticity can exist at the same time as I believe one can live their purpose and perform their goals. I believe Jennifer Aniston clips dont differ in authenticity as she is just adjusting how personal she needs to be in different settings (audience).

Auto Drawing

For the automatic drawing I used my Ipad as I did not have the materials I needed. My experience was unusual as I’ve never drawn with someone and in such a way. So it is safe to say I didn’t know what to expect to come out. The original was not as bad as I have imagined it would be. Due to the drawing not looking like anything I’ve seen, I drew within the lines like the dolphin with the muscular arm. Overall, it did not come out bad as I imagined it though I would not like to do it again.

My map of CSULB made me realize that I don’t really remember the different buildings but I have a routine. I honestly thought that I would know where 90% of the things on campus were. The reality was I didn’t know the direction things were and I even forgot the names of the buildings I go to. The way I drew my map was pretending I was there in person doing my usual routine. I really liked this activity as it challenged me and humbled me.

Artist Mahsa Soroudi

Artist and art curator Mahsa Soroudi was born in the metropolitan area of Iran, Tehran, in 1981. Soroudi enrolled into the Azad Art and Architecture University, pursing a BFA in Visual Communications. Her interests are about interdisciplinary topics that can exist beyond a exhibit, which in her provided example from the video, is ornamental plants (the succulents). Her purpose of her art is to compare the plant conditions and adaption to current conditions that are occurring for foreign countries and people. In works of art are a collaboration with an Iranian women, to portray recognition on the living and work conditions they face in order to find stability in a different country.

Soroudi’s “Natures Cadence” is the piece I would like to talk about. To me the first thing I noticed was the muted colors used for the room and chair. More so, the colors are not inside the “lines” as to give a hazy effect. Some lines are not straight as they were done free hand. All together the room is not meant to be realistic as the shapes of the objects are enough to know what each thing is.

“Natures Cadence” represents how ornamental plants have similarities to foreign people, such as adapting to given conditions in an environment, displacement and resettlement. Soroudi said she was like her plant because she didn’t believe the possibility of settling in the U.S, but her plants taught her remain beautiful and strong while trying to officially settle down, such as how a plant does in a pot with roots. She would experiment with the plants, planting them under different conditions and recording the solution of appearance after. This purpose of art can be directed upon anyone, having to adapt to conditions and continue to push forward towards your achievements.

I agree with the idea of Soroudi’s artwork, of how people can be like ornamental plants in my experience. Having to be independent student who has to make everyday productive. To be honest it was very difficult in the beginning as I felt like I had to know more than I had at the time. But like the plant I had to learn to adapt to my new environment if I wanted to continue.

This weeks artists is Adam Sabolick a student of the school of art focused on painting and drawing. Based on his Instagram he paints abstract and realistic paintings. He also has an appreciation for nature in both his paintings and home.

This particular piece, The Evening light (symmetrical murder) has mellow colors transitioning from the bottom to top. From a purplish blue to a mellow purple to then a yellow background. The birds have a symmetrical placement that is dictated by the middle of the canvas. All birds are black which makes them look all the same.

Speaking with Adam I started to understand what he felt toward nature and that it should be appreciated more. I saw how the symmetrical placement of the birds was very unnatural. This spoke to our attempts as humans to paint nature in a perfect manor to suit ourself. This highlights the contradiction of pleasure and anxiety Adam told me this painting speaks on. Where he purposefully made the birds symmetrical and very similar. The pleasure of having nature our “way” while it distances away from our natural appreciation that we are torn away from in a city.

I have to agree with the artist as I believe nature should be appreciated for how it is not how we want it to be. I may find myself buying more plants as the artist says he does for his home. To remind me of nature in a man made city. I really enjoyed the formal beauty of this piece and even more knowing what it means.

Pop song

Never been here before
But always wanted this for (sure)
I’ve spent a lifetime dreaming
And I know I want to stay
with you I’m feeling something
That makes me want to say

I’m prepared for this
I never shoot to miss
I feel like no matter what is coming
If I’m gonna make it through the day
Then there’s no use in running
Together there is nothing we can’t face

If I risk it all
you will break my fall

How do I live alone? How do I breathe?
When you’re here I’m thriving
I want to feel your love, run through my blood
Tell me is this where I give it all up?
For you I have to risk it all
‘Cause the future is with you by my side

and If I risk it all
you will break my fall

When writing my pop song I was thinking about the upsides to having a great partner. The way I constructed my song is by converting Sam Smith’s Writing on the Wall into a romantic song because originally it is a song without a happy tone or much optimism. This way it would be easier to me because writing a rhyme scheme on my own is a very intimidating. Personally I am not very fond of my own song though it came out better than I expected. I may write another song as a fun way to pass time as it will push me to be creative. If I were to write another song it would be with the intention of capturing a vibe.
